Villa launching £6M bid for Barcelona's Gudjohnsen

Aston Villa are planning a £6 million bid for Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is ready to join the race with Newcastle and Manchester City to sign Barcelona's Gudjohnsen after being given the go-ahead by owner Randy Lerner, according to the Daily Star.

The 29-year-old striker has made it clear he wants to leave the Nou Camp after having seen his chances in the first team limited under Frank Rijkaard, and with O'Neill looking to boost his attacking options a move to Villa Park would appear to suit both parties.

Barcelona are willing to listen to offers of around £6million for the Iceland international although his reported £70,000-a-week wages could be the major issue preventing such a deal.
