Villa keeper Sorensen upset missing kickoff

Aston Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen expects to miss the Premiership kickoff against Liverpool after suffering a hamstring injury.

Sorensen said: "This is the first time I have sustained this sort of injury. I placed the ball to take a goal kick and just felt my left hamstring go.

"I don't really know what caused it. Perhaps the fact the ball was very hard, that we were playing on synthetic turf, may have contributed.

"I really feared the worst at first but the physio is happy with my progress and I may need three to four weeks out.

"That would almost certainly rule me out of the Liverpool game but I hope I will be fit around a week after that.

"It's very disappointing and Liverpool is a great game to start the season with. I am enjoying my football at present, felt I played well last season and want to underline my position so this is the last thing I need."
