Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given revealed a piece of advice from Stiliyan Petrov before his performance in victory over FA Cup opponents Ipswich Town.

The former Bulgaria skipper, who is still battling acute leukaemia, was a welcome visitor prior to Villa's 2-1 defeat of Ipswich Town.

Given said: "Stiliyan was in before the game. It was fantastic to see him. He's a real fighter and a great guy.

"We know we are in a relegation fight in the league but to see the fight Stan is having is really inspirational.

"He's still a joker and comes in as if nothing is the matter.

"He came over to me to ask if I remembered what I was supposed to be doing!"
