Aston Villa hero Ian Taylor says manager Paul Lambert must continue to be clever in the transfer market to keep the club competitive.
Taylor believes the days of big money deals are over at Villa Park.
He explained to the Daily Star Sunday: "This club is no longer in a position to spend £25million on a striker.
"That is hard to take for any Villa fan but it is the reality.
"You just have to hope Paul can wheel and deal and find the unpolished gems who are out there.
"Good management is about backing your judgment and Paul proved his ability to put a team together on a lower budget at Norwich. That is why he got the job here in the first place."
