Aston Villa hero Paul Merson has rapped Fabio Capello for ignoring Ashley Young for his World Cup squad.

In his column for the Daily Star, Merson wrote: "Capello has missed a trick in not naming Ashley Young in his England squad for the World Cup.

"If you ask Peter Crouch, or Wayne Rooney for that matter, who they would want putting the crosses in, they would probably say Young.

"His delivery is first class and has been all season. He isn't all thrills and spills on the ball with 101 stepovers - but what he does do is put a good ball into the box.

"Aaron Lennon has come on leaps and bounds this season - and while I think his delivery has improved, I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Young's."
