Villa hero Ken McNaught: Senderos will have point to prove

Aston Villa hero Ken McNaught feels new signing Philippe Senderos will be hungry to prove himself.

Senderos became Aston Villa's first signing of the summer when he agreed a two-year deal following relegated Fulham's decision to let him go for nothing.

"At 29 he should be in his prime and the fact that he has been let go by Arsenal and then by Fulham should spur him on to do well at Villa," McNaught told the Birmingham Mail.

"He will obviously want to prove that they were wrong to let him go. He's spoken about the history and the fanbase at Villa so he will know this is a great stage to show people what he can do.

"Hopefully he can take up the challenge because Villa have struggled defensively in the last few seasons and they need someone to make them stronger at the back.

"I hear there's been a mixed response from Villa fans to him coming in, but it's not about what's gone before at his other clubs, it's what he does from now on for Villa."
