Villa given clear run at Ajax's Sneijder

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is set to move for Ajax midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

The Birmingham Mail says there had been speculation that Tottenham had already been involved in discussions with his agent but Villa would now appear to be in the box seat should Ajax relent in their stubborn no-sale stance which saw the collapse of Sneijder's move to Valencia.

Sneijder has two years left to run on his contract and Ajax sporting director Martin Van Geel remains keen for him to stay.
