He told Villa's website: "I pretty much played in the team up until the final and was then left out of the final squad.
"It's horrible, absolutely horrible, soul-destroying. I remember we played the likes of Tottenham with a team of full of kids and we won. We were so proud getting to the semi-final and things like that.
"We got drawn against Watford and we thought it was a great chance for us to get to the final. But he changed the team completely.
"We remember him saying to us 'it's your opportunity to play in this competition, you'll play every round.'
"Obviously when it got to a certain point, he changed his mind and we didn't. I felt we deserved to play. We got us there, we got Liverpool to that point.
"Who knows, in the final we may be would have got a heavy defeat but at least we'd got there and done well. But he changed the team and we got beat eventually anyway. I wasn't even in the squad. I went to the game. I was watching like everyone else."
