Aston Villa fullback Alan Hutton admits he was "surprised" over Roy Keane's resignation as assistant manager.
Ahead of today's Midlands derby against basement boys Leicester, the Villa right-back broke the club's silence over the Keane affair.
Hutton said: "I was surprised. It was a shock. But I understand his choice as I imagine it's tough to have two jobs.
"For me, personally, it was a good relationship. You could always go and talk with him whenever you wanted.
"Roy always demanded a lot from the players and that we give our all in training.
"He definitely put it across he wanted our standards to be high all the time.
"I think that has stayed with us. It's only been a week or so but the lads are going out and giving their all - not just in games but in everything. I hope it continues."
