Villa flare to be investigated by FA

The FA will look more closely into a flare thrown onto the pitch during Aston Villa's 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday.

Assistant referee David Bryan was struck by the flare which was thrown from the Spurs end after Andros Townsend scored the opening goal just after the half-hour mark at Villa Park.

Two men have been arrested by West Midlands Police and the matter will now be investigated by the FA.

"The FA will investigate this matter, which is unacceptable," a FA spokesman said.

"We will await the match officials' report and will be speaking to the clubs.

"Such incidents highlight the dangers of pyrotechnics being used in a football stadium."
