Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar admits he could've signed for Tottenham in the past.

Vlaar had a decent debut in defeat to West Ham United.

"When I was twenty I could've gone to Ajax , PSV and Tottenham," Vlaar told De Telegraaf.

"I went twice to Tottenham. I, in consultation with my parents, chose to wait and now I am at Aston Villa. I know I've made the right choice. Now I come in like a big boy. I have experience at the top, I've played in a European Championship and stand strong in life.

"Aston Villa has paid a huge transfer fee for me and I'll do what is needed to repay them."
