Villa defender Dunne happy to put Irish ambitions on backburner

Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne is happy to put the Republic of Ireland's Euros success to the back of his mind as he focuses on Tottenham tomorrow night.

Dunne insists he is fully focused on Monday's trip to White Hart Lane which kicks off a difficult run of games for the boys in claret and blue.

"I think it's a great achievement and we're delighted about what we've done during the week, but that can't be the end of it," Dunne told Villa's website.

"We've got to then not just go off and say 'oh well we've got to try and do something at the finals'. We've got some big games coming up for Villa, it's going to be important for us to be on top form so we can pick up points in December.

"Obviously the Euro Championships are a major finals so you want to go and do as well as you can. For me that means making sure I'm going into it off the back of a good, successful season.

"My aim now is to make sure I play well for Villa so that when the finals do come round I'm going into it off a good season.

"Tottenham is a really big club and they've done really well over the past couple of seasons, and it's always good to go and test yourself against the best players.

"I think going into it we've just come off a good victory against Norwich at home so we want to go back, get back down to the bread and butter and it's good to get a game to look forward to on Monday night."
