The pair were together at West Brom and Davies told Villa's website: "Jason is a real playmaker. He is so comfortable with the ball at his feet.
"He usually plays on the left but he's right footed. He can cut inside but if you show him the line, he's got a good enough left foot to deliver quality balls into the area.
"He was a real star in the Championship but he has proved that he can do his stuff in the Premier League too. He can give you so much going forward and West Brom virtually gave him the licence to show his attacking skills when we nearly went up via the play-offs.
"He scores some great goals too. He hit a cracking goal at Barnsley with his left foot. We didn't win the game but it was a fantastic individual moment. The ball came over the top and he spanked it with his left foot into the top corner.
"He also scored a great goal against Ipswich at the Hawthorns. They just go to show you can't take your eyes off him for a moment because he can punish you."
