Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar can understand manager Gerard Houllier backing his young players.
Houllier has had meetings with owner Randy Lerner to settle a strategy for the January transfer window and has ruthlessly prepared to get some of the club's top earning fringe players off the wage bill.
Steve Sidwell's move to West Ham will begin an exodus with Houllier planning to stick with his policy of promoting the club's youngsters like Ciaran Clark, Marc Albrighton, Barry Bannan and Jonathan Hogg.
Cuellar said: "The younger players are doing so well, they have adapted very quickly to the Premier League, and they are playing better level than some of the big players.
