Blackburn's 37-year-old American keeper Brad Friedel is said to be close to joining Aston Villa, although the two clubs have yet to agree a fee.

Rovers apparently want more than the £2.5million that Villa are said to have offered for the giant stopper, but the Villans are expected to do what it takes to clinch the deal.

Friedel stunned Rovers by asking to end his lengthy stay at Ewood Park. They don't want to see him leave but will not stand in his way if the price is right.
