Aston Villa are on the brink of signing Yannick Djalo on a free transfer.

The Guardian says Villa are close to concluding a move for the Portuguese striker Djaló under which he will join the club on a free transfer once the January window opens.

Djaló's career has stalled this season because of a dispute surrounding his move from Sporting Lisbon to Nice on transfer deadline day last August. Fifa refused to ratify the transfer, saying it had not been completed in time, and Sporting refused to take him back, blaming Nice for the problems and putting in place a legal dispute that has left the 25-year-old unable to play.
