Villa boss O'Neill won't wait for kids as he plans to spend big

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says the talent in the club's academy setup won't stop him from spending big this summer.

He told Villa's website: "Don't for one minute think that I am going to be pinning all hopes on an emerging young talent in the youth team, or an emerging two or three talents, that's not the case.

"Those people will develop as time goes on. Some might develop rapidly, and you can give other people a wee bit more time.

"I am seeing a fair bit of the youngsters in FA Youth Cup matches - not just normal league matches. I see these players playing under a bit of duress and pressure and it has all been very encouraging.

"Again, it is nice to see that. My point is this; I am not going to run around pinning my hopes on things."

He added: "In the summer time we are now going to try and improve our squad again to give the young players that wee bit of extra time to come through."
