Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is delighted with Stephen Warnock's England call up.

Warnock could face Brazil today in Qatar.

"He has done really brilliantly since his arrival," said O'Neill. "I am absolutely thrilled for him.

"I read the other day that he said one of the reasons why he joined Villa was because Fabio Capello comes to see a lot of Villa games - I must admit I hope that wasn't the only reason he joined the club!

"He has done exceptionally well and fitted in brilliantly.

"In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he was a little shocked himself at how quickly he has fitted in.

"He is just so solid and reliable. He is brave, he puts his head in - he's just a really exceptional player.

"It would have been hard for me to be delighted about him getting called up and then pleased that Luke Young has retired!

"He has been terrific and I still think he can keep improving. This is an opportunity for him and I hope he gets a chance to take it."
