Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill hopes to complete the £2 million signing of Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

"We wanted to try to get Brad in and he wanted to come," said O'Neill. "But his appeal for a work permit was turned down. I am going to have a look at it again.

"If you are talking about keepers that America has produced, he is in line with all of them."

Guzan has played only one competitive international in five USA appearances, failing to meet Home Office criteria.
