Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill admits he wants to strengthen his squad in every position.
O'Neill said: "I'll strengthen everywhere if I can. I'm well aware of the priorities - we need extra defenders. We've only got the three lads - Olof Mellberg, Martin Laursen and Gary Cahill.
"I have people in mind and I hope to rectify that in the coming weeks. I'd like to go into Saturday with a natural right-back and it's a priority, but I'd be prepared to go into the season with things as they are.
"I'm pursuing a number of people - players good enough to play Premier League football week in, week out."
He continued: "With Thomas (Sorensen) injured, we're looking to strengthen there. But we'll see how things go.
"I'm acutely aware of our squad size and we'll be doing everything we possibly can to rectify that in the next three weeks.
"If you're asking if I'm confident enough going into the Liverpool game with the squad I have, the answer is yes.
"But we'll see how we get through. We're in decent mood going into the game and much can happen between now and Saturday."
