Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says Craig Gardner will be better for his spell at fullback.
O'Neill said: "Defensively he can improve, it is about shaping up to tricky, fast wingers. But as a midfielder one of your tasks has to be to go backwards.
"This is a great experience for him."
