Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says Newcastle fans need to re-adjust their ambitions under new manager Kevin Keegan.
O'Neill said: "I am sure that his pledge is to bring back those glory days.
"But football has changed. Newcastle were able to compete with Manchester United at that time because they could vie for the very best players in England, Europe and even world football.
"Now there are other teams who have gone big on trying to compete like Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. There's more competition now but he's well aware of that."
