Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill slammed his 'over-confident' players for letting slip a two-goal lead in the final minutes of a 2-2 home draw with strugglers Stoke on Sunday. He said: "For the first time I thought there was a degree of over-confidence about us. We've got the second goal, which we have worked hard enough for and we should be able to read the situations better - and read what might develop in the last minute or two.
"I thought once or twice we were looking in the last minute or two to still play the sort of intricate football that got us 2-0 ahead. At 2-0, we should see it through.
"We were more than disappointed in the dressing room afterwards. In fact, everyone was devastated."
He added: "I think top four sides would see it through. I'm talking about the normal top four sides. Have we learned a lesson? I hope so.
"If we are good enough, fine, and over the whole 38 game season, if we are not good enough then we will just have to concede that."
