Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has admitted his admiration for Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy.

"McCarthy has proved his value," said O'Neill, aware that the South Africa international is still to win over Rovers boss Paul Ince.

"At one stage it seemed from a distance that John Gregory was after him. I think McCarthy's form since would prove that John would have been right to have chased him."
