Villa boss O'Neill: Chelsea defeat not the worst

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has had a rethink over last week's 7-1 defeat to Chelsea.

O'Neill is looking for a positive response from his players at Bolton Wanderers but admits he has now put the heavy setback at Chelsea into perspective.

He said: "We were well and truly beaten in the game at Chelsea and I said afterwards it was the worst result of my life.

"But, on reflection, it probably didn't come remotely close to losing the UEFA Cup final with Celtic after extra-time against Porto, who went onto win the Champions League the next season.

"Probably even worse was getting left out of Nottingham Forest's first European Cup final in 1979 as a player. I still find it hard to forgive the manager (Brian Clough) for that.

"That was heart-breaking because I didn't think I would get another chance to play in the final. Luckily it came around again the following year."
