Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has dismissed talk of a loan exit for attacking midfielder Patrik Berger.

"It's the first I've heard of it. I just don't know where that story came from," said the Aston Villa manager. "Patrik Berger has agreed new one-year contract and I'm delighted about that.

"There's no chance of him being sent out on loan - absolutely no chance of that.

"He did enough over the last few months of the season to earn another deal and he's very much in our plans for next season."
