Villa boss McLeish tells Rangers to wait for Cuellar

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is holding back plans to sell Carlos Cuellar.

The Daily Mail says Ally McCoist's plan to lure Cuellar back to Ibrox has suffered a setback after McLeish told Rangers he wants time to assess the Spaniard at Aston Villa.

However, veteran captain David Weir is poised to agree another tour of duty with the SPL champions after positive talks with McCoist.

The Ibrox boss has made no secret of his desire to land Cuellar as the defensive rock of the side in his first season in charge.

He had hoped a deal could be struck that would see the 29-year-old return to Glasgow in time for the SPL kick-off on July 23, but is now facing a wait for one of his premier targets.
