Aston Villa have approached Liverpool for striker Andy Carroll.
The People says Villa striker Darren Bent has plenty of support among the hierarchy at Anfield, including Director of Football Damien Comolli who took him from Charlton Athletic to Spurs for £16.5m in 2007.
There was even talk that Bent for Liverpool was a done deal last week.
This prompted McLeish to phone his fellow Scot Kenny Dalglish, but he soon made it clear there was no deal to be done involving Carroll.
Bent, who scored against Everton yesterday, has also struggled this season, although he has been lifted by this week's loan signing of Robbie Keane.
