Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is keen to keep Stiliyan Petrov on staff.

The Daily Mail says Lambert will offer Petrov a job within his set-up at Aston Villa after the midfielder yesterday confirmed his retirement.<-> Villa's boss said he had discussed the possibility of adding the former Bulgaria skipper to his backroom team after Petrov formally confirmed he had played his final game.

"There are just things in my head but Stiliyan will be the first to know," said Lambert. "It's only right I speak to him first and see how he feels. He has got a lot to offer, both because of the way he is as a guy but because of his football knowledge as well."
