Villa boss Lambert: Vlaar was never leaving

The agent of Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar says there was no chance of him leaving during deadline day yesterday.

Vlaar was being linked with Arsenal and Southampton, but an ankle injury did appear to cool the interest.

"Vlaar has a one-year contract with Aston Villa, and there he remains. Nothing happen with him was going to happen," argued Arnold Oosterveer.

Villa boss Paul Lambert added: "Even if he had been fully fit, there is no chance of a transfer."

Vlaar remains inside the final year of his Villa deal and is now just three months away from being eligible to commit to a pre-contract with a foreign club.
