Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has defended Christian Benteke's attitude during his goalscoring drought.
Lambert has rejected suggestions that Benteke's goal drought is because he has become complacent and is not trying after signing a bumper new contract in the summer.
"It makes me laugh when people say about body language," Lambert told the Birmingham Mail.
"How do you read somebody's body language - does somebody go to the game and just study somebody's movement?
"He's having a little bit of a time where he's not scoring and not playing as well as he has done.
"I don't think anybody goes into a game and doesn't try. There are times where you try too hard and things go absolutely wrong for you. I know that from my own playing experience.
"It happens to every player alive. You go through spells where you don't perform. It's impossible not to. If somebody could show me one player whose performances never drop below the height of greatness then I'd love to see it.
"Christian set himself an incredibly high standard last year, to the extent that people were talking abut him being third in the goals charts behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"If you fall below that with just a blip it can be magnified into he's having an absolute nightmare."
