Villa boss Lambert relieved to get Cup win under belt

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is pleased to get a win under the belt after their Capital One Cup triumph over Manchester City.

Lambert was reluctant to heap praise on forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, who scored twice to register his first goals since January.

But he admitted the victory, coming on the back of a 4-1 defeat at newly-promoted Southampton at the weekend, had given the players the lift they needed.

"I think it is unfair to praise any individual because the whole team was fantastic," said the Villa boss.

"Time will tell what it does for confidence. We have a hard game against West Brom but we are at home and can kick on.

"The adrenaline will be high at the minute but they'll get a day off and then go again."
