Villa boss Lambert quietly confident keeping Vlaar

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is confident Ron Vlaar wants to stay.

Lambert received positive vibes from the 29-year-old and remains hopeful he will stay.

"It was a good feeling I got from him," the boss told the Birmingham Mail after his side lost 4-1 to Groningen.

"He's positive and raring to go. He's had a great World Cup, nearly every one of his games was at the top level.

"He's looking forward to coming back, so that's a positive.

"Ron's got another year still to go on his contract, it's not as if he's at the end of it.

"He loves it at Villa, that's well known. I've no doubts I can keep hold of him because he's under contract - the bottom line is he's our player."
