Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert hasn't asked Joe Cole about what went wrong at West Ham United.
Cole will make his debut tonight against Capital One Cup opponents Leyton Orient.
Lambert said: "I don't know if people doubted him or didn't. He didn't play as much at West Ham as he would have liked. When games are really tight, sometimes you need that to unlock the door.
"He's got a terrific touch for a footballer.
"To be fair when I spoke to him on the phone, he was desperate to do the deal. I knew it wasn't a money thing.
"He's not on an amazing amount of money. He wanted to play football. I knew right away that he wanted to play."
