Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has sympathy for Malky Mackay and his problems with Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan.

Lambert, who played with Mackay at Celtic and welcomes the Cardiff manager to Villa Park on Saturday, controls playing matters at his club.

"You've got to have stability," he said. "I've got a good relationship with Randy. He has never interfered with me signing players or telling me who to sign."
