Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says fans were wrong to chant his name while Alex McLeish remained in charge.
Villa travelled to Norwich for the final game of last season and supporters called for Canaries chief Lambo to replace McLeish.
That is what happened. But Lambo, whose side host Norwich on Saturday, said: “I remember thinking at the time ‘This is the wrong atmosphere, this is not right.’
“As a football person I was uncomfortable with it. Really, really uncomfortable with that scenario.
“I understand the frustration of the fans with what was going on before but I felt sorry for Big Al.
“That technical area is only 10 yards wide but you can feel the loneliest man ever. But fans pay the money and come miles to watch it.
“Villa fans have been brilliant this season.”
