Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has taken the captaincy away from Darren Bent.

The £24million striker was given the honour in pre-season but has yet to score in the league this term.

So Lambert made new Dutch defender Ron Vlaar skipper for Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Swansea.

Lambert said: “I wanted to give Darren a break.

“He’s playing well but I thought I’d change it and let him focus on scoring.

“Christian Benteke coming in and scoring also gave Darren a lift and there’s real competition there now with Gabby Agbonlahor returning too.”
