But he has now hit four in eight games including crucial strikes against Reading and QPR.
And boss Lambert said: "The one thing that was lacking was goals.
"But what Gabby does bring is genuine pace to the game and a threat.
"In the last few months he's added goals and that is why he's enjoying his football even more.
"He's scoring quite regularly and when Gabby gets a run at you, not many are going to catch him."
