Villa boss Lambert challenges Benteke not to be one-season wonder

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert wants Christian Benteke to prove himself no one-season wonder.

The hitman's 19 goals have kept Villa afloat this term and seen him linked with Arsenal and Spurs.

But boss Lambert, who takes his troops to Manchester United on Monday, insisted: "I don't just want him to be a one-season wonder. It wasn't really until the turn of the year when his goalscoring caused people to take note.

"You don't want to put too much pressure on him as he's only a young guy learning his trade.

"He has made mistakes, as everyone else has.

"But his performances have been very good and now he has to sustain a level where he is doing that week-in, week-out.

"Whether he wins the award or not, we'll wait and see, but I don't think it will affect him one bit.

"He's doing his job and that's all you can ask of him. He's playing, scoring goals, he's been great."
