Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has played down talk of a move for Rennes goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez.
Douchez has been linked with Villa Park as a replacement for American veteran Brad Friedel.
But Houllier insists he has not made any concrete approach for the Rennes keeper.
"I deny that I have contacted directly or indirectly Douchez," said the Frenchman.
"And if I did, I would have directly contacted the general manager of Rennes, Pierre Dreossi."
