Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is determined to keep hold of Stewart Downing.
The England winger is a summer target for Liverpool and Sunderland.
But Houllier enthused: "Since I've been here he's been phenomenal.
"He's intelligent, the way he reads the game well and he can play several positions. He seems to deserve it."
