Villa boss Houllier: Beating drop is about our lives, our club, our fans

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier insists no-one at the club is taking their position lightly.

Houllier says he's very aware of their resolve to battle out of trouble as he revealed they have set a target of remaining unbeaten in their final seven games.

He insists fans will see this fortitude, starting in the game against Newcastle.

He said: "The final seven games will determine everything. We are playing for our lives here. We're in a dogfight.

"There is no point pondering the past. We've got 34 points. We know what it takes to stay up. The quicker we get there the better.

"This is about our stake, our lives, our club, the fans and I think the commitment will be even greater from now until the end of the season.

"These seven games are very important but what gives me encouragement is the fighting spirit and battling qualities we showed in the second half against Everton.

"We were one-down but we came back and fought extremely hard to be in a leading position."
