Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is confident James Milner will eventually win an England cap. England coach Fabio Capello revealed earlier this week that he had been impressed by Villa, singling out Milner for particular praise.
O'Neill said: "I am naturally very pleased for James after what Fabio said. That will have given him a further boost of confidence.
"Is he ready for an England call-up? I am sure in time that will come. He has got the ability. He feels he has got much more to give and much more to learn.
"But he is making very good progress at the moment.
"I accept the point that if Fabio says anything about any player he likes, then it is raging headlines.
"He mentioned Milner and says he likes him. I would say 'Snap', because I paid some money to Newcastle for him. I have been delighted with him.
"He has still to realise his potential, he knows that himself. Even at this moment, he feels there is much more to give this season."
