Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is closing in on Rangers midfielder Steven Davis.

The Scottish Sun says McLeish tried to lure Davis back to Aston Villa in the summer, only to have that bid rejected.

Now the former Ibrox gaffer is set to make a new offer for the 26-year-old in the January transfer window.

Villa boss Eck was playing his cards close to his chest last night and would only say: "I can't comment on other club's players.

"There are a few players who I feel could enhance my squad but it will be a case of being careful."
