Villa boss cools over previous transfer target Adam

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has claimed transfer window target Charlie Adam of Blackpool is no longer under consideration as the Frenchman prefers his current crop of midfielders. Villa had two bids for Tangerines captain Adam rejected by his club last month.

But now, after bringing in Lyon's Jean Makoun and Borussia Monchengladbach's Michael Bradley to compliment the likes of Stiliyan Petrov and Nigel Reo-Coker, Houllier is more than happy with the midfielders at his disposal.

Houllier said: "Adam was a target for us, Liverpool and Tottenham.

"I like the player, otherwise I wouldn't have made a bid, an official bid.

"But I prefer my midfielders. We've recruited some good players."

Houllier declined to comment on whether he might renew his interest in Adam during the summer.

He said: "We're not talking about the future. We're talking about this game with Blackpool, which is very important."
