Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says midfielder Craig Gardner can fill in at right-back.

O'Neill said: "Craig can play in a number of positions there's no question of that.

"He wants to play in midfield, to bomb forward, to score goals. I actually thought Gary Cahill did really fine in the first half. I jokingly said to Gary that playing full back is the easiest position to play.

"You play against wingers every 15 months and if you see green grass in front of you and you get the ball you go forward. If you are comfortable in possession then you should be able to manouevre it. But I was half joking when I said that."
