Villa announce Carling Cup debut for boss Houllier

Aston Villa have announced that Gerard Houllier will officially take charge of the club after this weekend's game against Bolton. Villa have been waiting for former Liverpool coach Houllier to tie up his exit from his role as the French Football Federation's technical director.

And now Houllier, who has penned a three-year deal at Villa, will make his bow as manager in the Carling Cup clash versus Blackburn Rovers.

"It has been confirmed Gerard Houllier will take charge of the team after the Bolton game," said a club statement.

"He will be in charge for the Carling Cup game against Blackburn Rovers next Wednesday."
