Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke was proud of his performance against Manchester United - though it wasn't enough to impress Dad!

Benteke made the nation shudder a fortnight ago when he floored England star Chris Smalling before squaring for Andreas Weimann to score against Manchester United.

He said: "Off the field I have great respect for Smalling and Rio Ferdinand because they play for a famous club like United.

"But on the park it's different. You must show your desire. Once the game starts I play to win.

"My father was in the Congolese military and sometimes he's strict. If I'm s**t, he tells me I'm s**t. After the United game, he said I played well then asked why I didn't score."
