Viduka upset for Newcastle pal Owen

Mark Viduka today expressed his disappointment following the recurrence of Michael Owen's groin problem against West Ham United at St James' Park.

The England star was due to undergo a scan and get a specialist's opinion.

And Toon boss Sam Allardyce has insisted that any potential hernia operation will take place straight away, casting a doubt over Owen's availability for England's crucial Euro 2008 qualifying games next month.

The Aussie's strike partnership with the ex-Real Madrid star blossomed in the first half of yesterday's 3-1 win over the Hammers as the United hit-man struck two first half goals to take his tally to three in black-and-white.

Viduka told the Evening Chronicle: "It's disappointing for Michael. We all know how good he is and it will be great to see him get back to full fitness.

"It's great playing up front with Michael.

"He is a top quality striker and when you get the ball you know what he is going to do.

"He knows what I am going to do to, he looks for you.

"It's great to play with those type of players.

"All strikers have their plusses and minuses.

"But I think in general Michael's all round game is excellent and that's why he is one of the most expensive players in the world.

"Michael has had a lot of problems with injuries in the past couple of years.

"It would be great if both of us can stay fit."
