Vidic: Man Utd captaincy making me better player

Nemanja Vidic says being made Manchester United captain has lifted his game to a new level.

After briefly being unsettled by interest from clubs like Barcelona and AC Milan, the 29-year-old Old Trafford cult hero has been back to his uncompromising best.

Vidic said: "When you have more responsibility you seem to have more concentration and that only helps to improve your performances.

"I have become a better player now I am captain.

"In general, when players have more pressure and responsibility, it becomes a positive thing. I am playing harder than before, training hard and showing more concentration. I am playing the best I can.

"Becoming captain of Manchester United was one of the proudest moments of my career, but we have a lot of leaders here who have also been captains.

"I am at the right age to accept responsibility and I am one of the most experienced players at the club.

"And maybe another reason I have the armband is because we have had problems in the past when the captain has been injured. I am usually always on the pitch."
